I think this is closely related to the Southern bhUpALam. I think the last caraNam of svAti's ashTajAma rAgamALikA, "pannagEndra Shayana," was originally composed in this rAga and these days is rendered in bhUpALam.

The rag 'vibhas ' that you are referring, I think, is also known by name 'Bhibas ' and are one and the same. The rag Bhibas is a Hindusthani raga belonging to the 4th That (Bhairav). The 15th Mela Mayamalavagoula of CM is the ewuivalent to the Bhairav That of HM. The Carnatic rags Bowli, Revagupthi sound similar to the rag Bhibas. The notes are;
Arohanam: SRGPDPS Avarohanam : SDPGPDPGRS. The note Dha is the vadi swara and Ga is the samavadi note of the rag Bhibas.

This is a early morning raga and invokes bhakti rasa. There is a rag named 'Bhibhasu' in CM of the 15th mela which uses the note Ma in the avarohanam instead of Ga . MS Subhalakshmi had chanted Hanuman Chalisa starting with this rag Bhibas.

Please do correct me or add more to this thread. Thank you

Raag bibhaas is well demonstrated in the song 'Saanjh dhale gagan tale' from the film Utsav starring Rekha and Shekhar suman. It was based on the sanskrit play - Mrcchakatikam -The clay cart.
The song used both the Dhaivathas - Shuddha and chatusruthi, though I am not sure if that is BIBHAAS

Please go to the following link and know about the Hindusthani ragas and its equivalant ragas of Carnatic music. The link is;
http://www.asavari.org/ragamala.html#Iman
The rag Bhibhas(bhibash) is mentioned in this link as a janya of Kalyan -That, which is, according to me is incorrect, as Ri and Dha are komal swaras for the rag Bhibas, whereas these notes are Tivra swaras for Kalyan - That.

Rag Bauli of CM uses the additional note Kakali Nishadam in the avarohana only. Rag Bhupalam and rag Revagupti have the same arohana avarohana pattern of swaras except the Gandhara swara. Bhupalam sports Sadarana Gandaram, whereas it is Antara Gandharam for Revagupti.

Bhupalam is said to be the janya of 8th Mela(H.Thodi) and Revagupti and bouli ragas are said to be the janya of the 15th Mela. Hence the rag Revagupti has more similarity to the rag Bhibas. Bhupalam raga using the Antara gandharam note is also in practice.

The arohana Avarohana notes posted by me for the rag Bhibas are quoted from the book titled 'Hindusthani Sangeeth' written by Sri. M.O. Srinivasan, copies of which are available with The Karnatic Music Book Centre, Royapettah, Chennai-14. Probably some one with better knowledge and exposure in Hindusthani music can explain your doubts.
