Nice concert for the occasion. It was a full hall with a committed audience. The acoustics was just ok. I liked the natakapriya (as I was told later) very much - haven't heard it before. My only gripe was the simmendramadhyamam and kamas could have been switched. No complaints about brocheva (one of my all time favs) - reminded me of hearing KVN sing it in the bay area in 1993. Sri. Krishnamurthy grandson of Mysore Vadudevacharya was present on the occassion. TKV was superb (I have a bias - as I like the way he plays a lot) and the percussion accompaniment was very nice. Tani got a lot of applause - being talam challenged - someday will appreciate it :) Easwaran sir in particular played very delicately throughout the concert and had nice words to say about Vid. pattabhi.

Both bilahari and natakapriya alapana were enjoyable. Khamas was also equally good and imaginative, but had some repetitive phrases. I agree with above comment that it could have been swapped with simhendramadhyamam. I had fears of hearing pantuvarali which pattabi sings often, but was happy to hear not so often heard natakapriya. On khamas swarams, vocalist sang swarams around gm-dns- pattern, and Sri Eshwaran also used such patterns in his tani avarthanam. The behag slokam is being sung by pattabi often, on his guru KVN, goes like rama narayanam mama gurum narayanam vande.. A nice and enjoyable concert.

Also noted that he added "vasudevam vande" - probably due to the occasion. Yeah... bilahari alapana though short was very nice. A pratimadhyamam elaboration would have made it really good.
