Why did I send you alone? What can I say,my friend?[p]
After sending her to the outrageous gopala's house
It seemed as if she was under a spell, O maiden.[a.p]
Annoyed, looking worn out, breathless, somehow she is fidgetting.
In the dark, she was clearly seen by unconnected persons.Without
rhyme or reason,she is confused,behold her.In a hurry,[Why did I send][c1]
when you staggered,sighed deep,there was a wound on your lips.O my friend,observe.
knowingly, like this,would you waste away,as if possesed,or a demon has seized ? [c2]
outrageous gopala who joined me,in haste, has negated the news[of arriving] and forgotten?
Vexed, unable to find a way, what can I do? See, Do you want to be like me?

Smt. Savitri - thank you!
Reminds me of a tamizh padam, unnai tUdu anuppinEnE, ennaDI Accu - I have a vague recollection of translating it here before, but can't find it using the serach function.

Re: Meaning for padam: Ela oNTigA
Somewhat confusing with :
"you/why did I send you alone?"
"sending her to the outrageous Gopala.."
and "I/do you want to be like me" with the Gopala allusion.
Are there three people here being talked about? Can someone provide a gist ?
It seems clear that the narrator herself has had a bad experience with the "outrageous Gopala" so can't follow why the narrator laments -"why did I send "you" alone" to that same "outrageous Gopala" and then finally ask of this "you" - "do you want to be like me?"

smala Ji,
you are right. This is a dialogue between three people.

Re: Meaning for padam: Ela oNTigA
In the pallavi a woman is regretting her action of sending a girl alone to gOpAlA’s house.
In the anupallavi she addresses another woman and explains the outcome of the girl’s visit.
In [c1] she explains how the girl looks.
In [c2] she addresses the girl and the other woman and asks if she would do this knowingly.
In [c3] the girl tells the other woman how gOpAla did not keep his promise and would she[the other
woman] want to be like herself.
The other woman is only a silent spectator.
