Flute: J. A. Jayanth
Violin: H.M. Smitha
Mridanga: Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma
Khanjira: Sunaad Anoor
Song list:
...
1. Jaya janaki kantha - Natta - (S) - I went in as he was finishing swaras for this kriti. Not sure if he played a varnam before this.
2. Raka shashi vadana - Takka
3. Marubalka - Sriranjani (A,S)
4. Eppadi manam - Husseini (Brief raga sketch)
5. Devadi deva - Sunada vinodini (Raga outline, S)
6. RTP - Kapi - Chatushra Triputa 2 kalai. Edupu 2 after samam.
Pallavi line was in Tamil and it went "Muruga shanmuga vel muruga..." could not note down. Ragamalika swaras in Vasanti, Madhukauns(?), Madhyamavati follow
7. Baro krishnayya - Maand and other ragas.
8. Pibare rama rasam - Ahir bhairav (Brief raga sketch on bansuri)
9. Om namo Narayanaya - No idea about this song or the raga.
10. Tillana (?) - Sindhu bhairavi (Brief raga sketch on bansuri again)
11. Ni nama rupamu - Sowrashtra ending in Madhyamavathi
Good, neatly presented concert by the youngster who I am sure we will hear a lot in the coming days. Highlights were definitely Marubalka (can hardly go wrong with this kriti) and Kapi RTP. Fillers were good too, specially the Husseini. Very moving and played at a leisurely pace. If I have to nit-pick, I would say there were too may Hindustani flourishes (in Kapi and Ahir Bhairav pieces). I am not against it but I felt it was a tad overdone.
Support was excellent. Smitha, as always, played admirably with her Sriranjani and Kapi alapanas being the highlights. Percussionists played their part well with a good tani (I thought both of them missed an akshara or two in their turns but hey...).
Wishing Jayanth good luck in his musical career.

You have led a charmed life until the morning. What happened; did you break a mirror or something?prahalad_rag wrote:

Well, if you had heard neither the song nor the raga, it would count as a charmed life.prahalad_rag wrote:Why ra?harimau wrote:You have led a charmed life until the morning. What happened; did you break a mirror or something?prahalad_rag wrote:

The charm is broken if you have an unfortunate accident with a mirror.
That is why I asked if you broke a mirror or something.
She left the web, she left the loom
She made three paces thro' the room
She saw the water-flower bloom,
She saw the helmet and the plume,
She look'd down to Camelot.
Out flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror crack'd from side to side;
'The curse is come upon me,' cried
The Lady of Shalott.
